Arundhati Roy-Author-works

Welcome Readers!

This task is given to us, to enhance our knowledge of political, social, environmental issues, faced by Arundhati Roy in her personal life. How she has faced, at what extent, how she solved each and every problem forth coming in her life and how she overcome those.
- Task assigned by Dilip Barad sir.

About Arundhati Roy:

Arundhati Roy was a controversial author(Shekhar Kapoor's film bandit), actress, environmentalists, an anarchist,  a determiner, a facilitator, political & human rights activist, a social&political anti-global critque, a believer in humanity/spirituality and architecture(refer to the above mentioned video for better understanding of her insights towards architecture):

Having passion for writing, preferred inscribing rather than designing.
Who herself has described her experience in (In which Annie gives it those ones[1989] Electric Moon[1992]) where she has shared her wise idea of growing more fruit trees on either side of railway track, by soaking naturally originated fertilization(human defecation&sprinkling from train). Which seems to be the result of her keen observing power. She has also reinstated how she has coped up with her life in such circumstances, when in "School of architecture" she had kept two hens, which were laying regular eggs, by selling those, she was running herself. Which shows her determination and conquering power for life. Many traits are there which can be also briefly discussed in forth coming two novels.

Hence she was in a way a believer of multi-approaches, where she herself has shaped her personality and without any suppression/fear had dared to encounter her life's challenge in each and every scenarios.

Two Novels-

The God Of Small Things:(click to know it's another side)

Here the novelists has shown many happenings of the past by going into the forays of it: caste system, love laws, hereditary social class system, touchable/untouchable like concepts, communism(Indira Gandhi green revolution), human rights, Environmental damage in 1960s.

In this novel, we see the fraternal twins(Rahel&Estha), fated for separation and reunited again. Though however personal despairity they have, they are equally fated to face outside violence, insanity and anarchist world, seems as the victim of inescapism, whether they like or not they have to tolerate and if unable to they may be succumb to death. But in this novel we see both the twins are having sex at last, seems as their loneliness has hurled them both to such extremity, where they are just stuffed up and don't have any filterization system to empty their emotions, so emptying in this way.

Talkhiyaan serial song(Pakistani drama) to know the full story, watch all the series of the serial.

In this novel we see how she has reinstated the darkest happenings of modern India (Godhra train burning & Kashmir insurgency) how exploitation, havoc, massacre of innocent being, stubbornness, dominating invisible power has generated a rebellious intersex woman(gay) and how a critic has criticized that she only says the problems of "Kashmir" but never attempts to say the causes of the problems.

She has also entitled some attributives to the various ministries of India. In the below mentioned video, you will also see some brief ideas of the writer's novel narrated by the narrator of the video and the three characters, representing vivid identities.

Hence we see in the two above mentioned novels that how she has contemplated her experiences, based on politics, society, environment, all Indian affairs of post-Independence and some highlights of pro-independence. How through the various characters she has tried to put her vivid perspectives, which perhaps can't be said directly but through different mediums it is possible.

Arundhati Roy's perspectives towards life:

As we may have an idea from her various works that we had discussed. She was knowing  everything happening in and around her, she knew that there are some hidden causes which are giving birth to contemptuous like personality as she has introduced in "the ministry of utmost happiness" various personas of ministries and about their specificities. How environmental issues can be solved, when a person has wise understanding and keen observant like quality as the writer has. How a person rather than succumbing to situation in which he/she is hurled to, can come out from it, if has that determination, positivity and courageous power towards life(as shown in "In which Annie gives it those ones". Also when if anything isn't given as required, how one has to bend one's finger to get something, which is her/his right to deserve(as did to get her degree for graduation, in the same screenplay) no matter if it was morally right or wrong but perhaps it should be humanly right. From here we get an idea of, she perhaps believing in humanity(spirituality) rather than in any aspects/fractions/religions.

She may be inscribed as "anarchist" as she wanted for one of her works to be totally based on anarchism but as a director has some limitation, he/she is demanded to give the script an artistic effect rather than making it dull by sprinkling brooding solemnity on it.

Hence we see here how she has mirrored each and every perspectives of life in her works and through which those have made Space perhaps into the readers/audiences minds, if observed her ideas minutely.

Assignment topic : various characteristics of women regarding(neo-classical era:Tom Jones)

Abstract

Neo-Classical era, known as the age of superficiality, gaiety and frivolty, due to charles II's  influence as he was belonging to France wanting to disperse his own culture in England. As women are very much sensitive and vulnerable that they may easily succumbed or surrender to anything, coming in their way. With those traits we are going to work regarding Tom Jones by Henry Fielding, the father of the novel.

Keywords

Neo-classical era, Charles II, France, women, sensitive/vulnerable, traits, Tom-Jones(Henry Fielding)

Introduction

Henry Fielding is known as the father of the English modern novel and also for introducing 'picaresque novel'. In his novel he has tried to highlight many traits of women and did his best in maintaining their hierarchical traits.

Character analysis

As I'm here to analyse vivid characteristics of women, we must first do that.

To give a proper contrasting effect first we must go with "Lady Bellaston".

Lady Bellaston, a rich widow who is called (mrs.) though she isn't married but old, is entitled with this prefix.

As she is influenced with wealth, she has utilized it in wrong way, she is always after trapping men and she has many relations with many men.

When knew Sophia loves Tom and because of Sophia Tom has denied his realtionship with her, she schemingly tries to provoke lord Fellamar to rape Sophia, but he didn't get succeed.

All these aspects of Lady Bellaston shows her stubbornness, possessiveness, an enviousness advantageousness and selfishness.

Moly Seagrim, a poor woman. To satiate her desires indulge herself with many love affairs. which we can conclude by examining in a scene.

Moly is pregnant and when her mother knows, instead of objecting or asking her about the child and child's father, she worries about food. As another member is going to include in their family, they even can't properly survive how the new invitee will.

It seems as to satiate her desires, she selected the easy path, where on and often humiliation is there, but it all depends on one's psyche if she wants to consider it. Otherwise it is for temporary and human's mind psyche is very strong. what she thinks she can do. if this latter thing she has applied possitively in her life then perhaps the situation of present for her, should have been fruitful and healthy for which she would have proud.

Jenny Jones, who later becomes Mrs. waters.

Jenny Jones, who is living in somerset village, in Squire allworthy's house.

Morally and philosophically Henry Fielding has presented very strong character in the form of Jenny Jones. who by being with mr. Partridge who himself is teacher, educate herself. As it is such time where girl education was underrecognition, all people of the village were jealous of her and they utilize their jealousy, when Jenny Jones alleged of having child and abandoned it on allworthy's bed as she doesn't want to get on with her duty.

She is out with the help of money, that Squire Allworthy has provided her. But gradually what happens, as she proceeds further though Henry Fielding hasn't shown that period clearly, reader's views in this respect remains in vain, but imagining she must be in many difficulties and if literally seen a woman can't survive alone as she requires many things. Among which the prime thing is "tutelage". If she is blessed with only one thing, the rest things she can
 achieve.

In this case as she also has affair with Tom Jones and others, seems as to retain herself, she must be doing all these things. Otherwise perhaps she wouldn't have survived. The title of her very name suggets its fluidity and she becomes "Mrs. Waters".

Sophia Western, a very strongly influenced character, with morality, philosophy and wisdom and that lasts forever with her and this is what that differentiates her from Jenny Jones. We can presume that perhaps in absence of Sophia Western, Jenny Jones would be writer's second choice of making her heroine of his novel.

Hence we have seen how Henry Fielding has tried to make aware people of how a woman can be, how she  has many hues, positive, negative, derogatory, invisible. If unaware of such things it is such a poison which would destroy one's life.
