Journalism: #Lead-Writing #Feature-Writing

With the advent of information, journalism like concept came into being as a means to disseminate information; through newspapers, TV channels/any of the mediums. As it progressed with the time, it encountered advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantages receded to history, while the advantages took the form of lesson from history and treaded forward, unbounded. As a result we have now many varieties in journalism, concerning two: #lead writing and #feature writing. Lead writing has subcategories also: hard lead and soft lead, which we're going to discuss in detail with some examples.
Definition of Lead writing with reference to two other subtypes
Tap on the above image, to see a sample of feature writing.

Sample-2: feature writing

This sample highlights very famous quoting: "There is a woman behind every successful man". And how the story is unfolding(read the story by clicking on the given link) where it is written: 'wife has pushed her husband into water, while luckily he comes out of water, say 'destined to'.

     Definition of feature writing
Feature journalism is associated with creative journalism. Which escapes hard news format allowing the creative writers among us to write feature articles in an inventive and compelling way. Unlike short and to the point articles, feature articles deal with a subject in greater depth and usually at greater length. Where your emotions and feelings get free vent to explore on their own.
Lead Writing
A sample video for lead writing, where a reader is more tempted to know about the news of 'Joe Biden who let's China in schools of America'.

We have seen usually, in newspapers news in fraction where one after another the message compels reader to read further by arising curiosity in him/her.

Lead Writing: The news article gives report of an entire incident in sharp short summary that asks the aspects of the news through WH questions; who? what?why?when?how? etc and makes readers curious to read the news.

Hard lead: Gives comprehensive outlook of the event in elaborative                                                                              style.

Examples

Soft lead: Provides a short summary.

Conclusion
It seems ultimately that with progression in time and space many earthly things have changed and so the essential element like newspaper that depicts the happenings in and around the world. Some are conveyed in direct manner some indirectly, but for each manner a medium is required, thus a variety of methods are invented.

ELT-2: Multimedia Package(CALL)

This blog is based on CALL aspect. That doesn't focus on technicality of hardware and software but pedagogical aspect, how through interactive tools(2.0) English language teaching is imparted.

Let's see a glimpse of CALL.

As the very multimedia material is based on CALL aspect, it comprises three phases of CALL: Behaviouristic, Communicative and Integrative. All the phases are interwoven with one another. Where Behaviouristic phase being prominent, conceived in 1950s, implemented in 1960s and 1970s, while Communicative phase emerged as a response to behaviouristic aspect of CALL, which postulates that the prior didn't serve anything of authentic value. Subsequently the last phase goes, with different novelty.

Basing on this approach, I have embedded here 8 videos, displayed on youtube channel, where all the performances, did during presentation season-3 and virtual literary festival, 2020 are presented and through this some message is imparted.

Thank you.

ELT-2: Main-message-expressed-in-Videos

Having assigned task on ELT-2, we were suppose to see how English language was imparted by the pioneers of 18th century as well as now by 21st century initiators. With what constraints, restrictions, elements, components and how now it is sustaining its very nature, though with the arrival of internet in wider terms that had made the entire world one, seems to be situated in a hole with the wall.

In first video, Sir Ken Robinson is talking about 'the changing paradigms' in public education system. Which is done by reformation in this particular area and it is for two reasons: economic and cultural identity.

The raised question is: How the education can be imparted to the 21st century students, so that they might have place in economy and we may get the required results.

How through education they can figure out the sense of cultural identity?

Which he is seeing through the past; how there was batch system, the education was imparted only for a particular age group but now there isn't any criterias as such but the free vent towards education enhancement and enrichment.

Industrial revolution was occured in such a way that the very education system was industrialized. Where there was separate facilities, specialized subjects, batch system and education imparted only to a specific group of students and it was difficult for working class people to get through the education. Therefore there was divide in education field and now the strivance for public education reformation is initiated.

In mid nineteenth century, the education was centralized on enlightenment and with this intellectuality and economy were more emphasised and obviously there were only few benefactors.

All these differences of non-academic, academic, smart, non-smart people regarding myths were vanished with the endeavor of reforming public education but then modern epidemics came and still the problem of attention deficit disorder(ADHD) is there though in different manner.

It seems that human's constant practice in this particular field is needed as with time and space, it fluctuates in disorientation.

With renewal of 21st century culture, also came the concept of divergent thinking, which isn't a synonym for creativity but a capacity for creativity and how you can see one thing in different context without any convergences(an example of clip is given). While innovation is something beyond to this.
Sugata Mitra's videos; one on 'the school in cloud(the hole in the wall) and another on the future of learning. Where he is stressing on: 'Traditionality regarding education would be eradicated' and something like 'school in the cloud' would get implement as it is the education system, which runs a decade ahead of usual education system.

Where he had done many experiments regarding hole in the wall, where a computer is situated in the hole and self-organised learning is happening on children's own pace. The cloud system comprises of a grani and the cloud(for switching on-off the lights).

  • Project based on pronounciation.
  • Project based on subject specification.
  • Project based on adaptation towards learning.1

He further says that the teacher must ask big questions to the students, so that they can come with interesting stuff and in this way, at many places the experiments were being done and sought the results for analyzation to see the gaps in education system. It is not only done with rich students but particularly to see, how the students who are abandoned from such privileges can acquire education(based on education for all{idea}).
Let's use video to reinvent education. This video is by Salman khan, a developer of non-profit organization, "Khan Academy". Habituated to impart information in traditional mode, but once thought to upload a video on YouTube. In comparison to traditional mode of teaching, online mode of teaching got many reviews. One of the reviews was from his cousin, suggesting him to upload video online as said by Salman Khan own that he need automated Salman Khan not Salman Khan himself. While the actual reason was, when anything is in online mode, one can watch at one's convenient time rather than getting well-equipped with all essentials, when attending class in traditional mode.

In this aspect, to him online education seems to be more feasible and something to rely on.

In the last video, about digital natives and digital immigrants is discussed.

By concluding, I would only like to say that through studying and experiencing many unexplored/underexplored areas, one gets to the depth of represented/underrepresented spaces, before.

Thank you😊❤💐

ELT-2: Can-Technology-Replace-the-Teachers

A Brief Overview of English                           Language and Technology

Since ancient times the teaching was parted out through gurukul system, where there was a 'guru' 'shishya' relationship and shishya used to help his/her guru, when the help was demanded/asked. It gradually developed with proceeding time further and we had specifically in India mughals, darbars, Brahmins, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra(4 classes) etc. The former were involved in science, medical and technology like professions and also had been claimed for hidden desire of domination.

With progression of time ahead, we saw the arrival of Britishers in India, then the gradual establishment of English language as a second language in India, where by gaining status of official langauge, it was considered as lingua-franca and link-language.

While today we can see the significant difference between then and this time. Though many policies, schemes regarding education system have been invented but still it urges to relook into the whole compound of ELT.

CAN TECHNOLOGY REPLACE THE TEACHERS?

It seems to be a great question mark on teacher's own personality. Is a teacher like personality more vulnerable to such situations, so that they easily get succumbed to? If it is so, then what they will teach to their after coming generations(as teachers are considered to be a future maker)? Similarly what they have learnt from their teachers..But isn't it, for this also a morally good and disciplined teacher is required..!

This may be hard to find but we first look into ourselves, where we are.

Yes it is that the technology has colonised poeple very badly. Especially those who're illiterate and don't know how to cope up with the new and upcoming challenges. The people who are well-experienced and well-equipped won't have any problem, with any kind of situations but the thing is, they need to push themselves constantly and continuously.

For Example: Robinson Crusoe(Slave&master relationship).

Mobydick: The relation between Ahab and the albino whale(mobydick).

Contagion: Deforestation like disaster.

As these personalities were ignorant and perceived as trivia in terms of knowledge, it was easy to colonise them.

In the same manner the technology is working.

Modern Times: where it seems that the humans are working against naturality but this is due to influence of technology that it had made them made. As they are unaware of they are just working as instructed without sensing the things rightly and this is how master&slave relation can be defined.

Given Points

  11. Well-equipped with subject knowledge and organization of content.
  12. Transperancy/Openness of the mind.
  13. Expressive.
  14. Healthful state of mind because computer operates through humans, so the human can't be drewn into. He/she should remain in-between, neither one should become master nor slave of technology.
  15. A swift and smooth multitasker.
  16. Believer of autonomy in education.
  17. A sensible adapter.
  18. Comprehensive counselling network(in terms of collectivity).
Views on News Articles
There is a vast difference between Indian education and Finland education system, yet it also differs from US and UK system of education. In Finland children aren't allowed to take formal education until they're of 7 and to sit in National assessment until transforming into 16 of their age. Therefore it is seen that they do great in all areas of life; their creative impulse is very strong, they can freely share their ideas, the teachers are highly automated so that they can place positive remarks on each individualized performance. Thus this finish education system also differs in respect of rationale to the other universities as they are obsessed in competition, while here there is no scope of doing so and the children are made free from doing homework or any kind of assignments and hence there is no question of grade.

In Indian context, education starts from grading system. It is being believed that this is the key to enter in higher degree courses and to get a good career but it rarely happens and also it compels because it obliges students to think that good grade will lead them to good college/University education with good infrastructure and faculty but this isn't required from market. Market wants something indifferent.

Thus President Kovind says that the need to give autonomy to universities/colleges have now arisen. Though in India we have 903 universities and 39, 050 colleges but there is  a huge gap in respect of gaining Worldly excellence in terms of education quality in India and so it is being decided that 20 universities would get promoted further and will be entitled  as 'universities of emminence' after pitting few of the universities in competition.

"man is condemned to be free. Condemned, because he did not create himself, yet is nevertheless at liberty, and from the moment that he is thrown into this world he is responsible for everything he does."

                                                     ~Jean Paul Sartre

Education in Finland arena seems to be progressive, in India regressive and the idea of emminity seems to be the resolution from all restrictions. It is yet remaining to be seen, if this idea works or not because in Finland it was adapted well at earliest, while in India it is just framed and only made applicable to higher studies.

Moreover with the advent of technology, the question of the amount of technology to be used in teaching and learning is aroused.

While with the entry of AI, we see it has reduced human interaction and snatched the naturality of learning, reflecting and doing hardwork. The things which were used be done naturally, is now happening digitally.

Machine based test: Where two types of objective customization go parallely and it is in lack of one, that another is discovered. Earlier the preparation of objective questions, was taking some one hour but now with the help of AI driven assessment software, it only takes one minute, customizing questions as per the learner's need and giving instantaneous results. It also nurtures accuracy and making teachers focused rather than placing them only as a general advicer for students, which is actually pushing students to look a new learning path.

An another software(Karnick), which is serving with employability score for a student. That shows you where you're standing at present and suggests you which skills are yet needed to get fit in data scientist job, so the student can start work accordingly.

A prediction is also made that in coming times, physical invigilators would be replaced with online invigilators. Where it will record all the movements  remotely done by the students during conduction of examination.

It seems as step by step technology is widening its legs so what can be the nearest solution for coping up with this situation. It isn't possible that the teachers can now succumb to technology, while technology is doing its work in unprecedented manner. In conclusion one can only say that as technology is operated through humans, humans need to be more accurate and with appropriate precision and must be well-equipped with collaborative ideas, which is more emphasized.

Key takeaways from the advertisements, shown in the video
Mainly from Sir's speech it is deciphered that the requirement of technology goes for students not for teachers as those are already paid the salary so they can buy.
If students are using tablets they should use for academic purpose and for their personal growth. They should share what they are learning on any of the social media platforms and must create YouTube channel, blogs/discover various apps etc. Rather than succumbing to traditional mode of learning they should adapt smartly with the ongoing ways of learning.

Main Video on Tablet Distribution, with inclusion of three videos on various advertisements.

Video(1): Internet Baby.

Freedom through technology: Google.

Video(2): An idea of virtuality in upcoming times.

Where an aged man goes for admission but due to insufficient space, he is denied to get his grandchild's admission. Thus the idea comes of getting education virtually, where all the things interrelated with education are aired virtually.

Video-3: A story of an electrician named Sanjay, living in Ratnouli, Muzaffarnagar, Bihar. In search for job going to Delhi: a connection with scams and corruption, happening in Narega(A small village).

A ray of hope in the form of website from where the grievances of all villagians, who had been forfeited regarding their possession of lands, are lodged and the problem is resolved.

All in all it suggests us that in obsession of technology, one can't mar the very humanbeing inside because all creation is done by humans, humans are at disposal in inventing technology also, so how they can drive themselves in such a way that they are unable to found their whereabouts, which is actually engrossed in technology. Why one shouldn't choose a middle path, where it is in blended learning mode and where the human skills can be legitimized through technology rather than getting subverted.

If in this way learning and teaching is happening with all prescribed qualities given in above(under given points section) then education can thrive and rather than teachers getting replaced by technology, they would facilitate their working process with technology.

Disturbing mind leads you to something unique but the condition is, it should puzzle you..

Puzzling leads to resolution!

It is said by Paulo Coelho that "when you want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to acheive it."

This happened with me aptly. I was just thinking: how it is possible that 'recording can only be done through laptop/computer but not from mobile phone'. And this led me to discover this..

Just I was sleeping two days before and got a pinch in my mind, that how you can sleep like this, where your much work is left. This thought snatched my sleep and I suddenly got up, get the mobile and tried my best to get anything which can be proved a helping hand to me.

A miracle just blink its eyes and I got this app called "XRECORDER". Where one is required to follow the below given steps.

Select the video, from which you want to part a portion of your video.

Select the first screen: By clicking on the screen recording icon, just start recording till the end screen of the selected clip. Tapping on stop recording, the screen recording will show up in this respective app, from where you can share on any of the social media platforms; such as Instagram, facebook, youtube, slideshare etc.

It has many versions as such, which you can explore on your own.

Placing some screenshots here
