our sir (dilip barad) is very much concerned about his students, that they should come out with youthful thinking by stressing their complicated psyche, so that the minute particles of asteroid would gather and burst, where lively thinking lives and try to generate a new oasis🤩😍👸this task is very much concerned with these emotions..

Some hypothetic synthesised facts, based on obituaries of Girish Karnad controversial life:

As we know Girsih Karnad was a greatest controversial critic of India.  As he had criticised "V.S. Naipaul for being an anti-muslim", appreciated tipu sultan as one of the five hundred kings's "great king of Mysore" though he was  intolerant of religion, condemned RSS, BJP in 2014 when Narendra Modi, today's our prime minister was chief minister of India, also reprimand for the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 and against the ongoing controversial attempts for "Idgah Maidan" in Hubli.

By applying {The formalist approach[The trap metaphor]}. we suppose to see that what "Girish Karnad" knew, we must be not knowing. Implying his known factor, he is able to see what is actually the case and so he had precarious reaction towards such controversial things, which seems to us as treason to nation but actually isn't the case.

For Example: As he is against religious fundamentalism, and as Girish Karnad wants freedom of speech for his country, we can literally see that only he wants to transform his India into an ideal state. Where there isn't any system of "right wing". who are deeply embedded in religion and also are intolerant of religion, force others to be like them and If one goes against them or even tries to think about it, can be shot dead. As they allegedly shot dead "Gauri Lankesh" an editor of weekly magazine, belonging to bangalore, karnataka.

If we presume here that it is the duty of the writer to shape his nation or people and if he/she cannot, atleast he/she should try once in a life, he should have satisfaction of atleast he did something in his life, It depends  if it works or not. As here we're to see "Girish Karnad", when one knows what is real and what is illusive, how one can follow the obscure path?Though at that time "The India" was a conservative nation still it is and so perhaps he wasn't willing to be the part of corrupted, violent, religious majoritarian nation. where at the name of religion, people are threatened, forced to follow what they are following, compelled to do such things and If one goes against such man made religious laws, one has to pay the cost by abandoning his life, while that particular person becoming an exampler for them to threaten others, that If they would go against them, they would meet the same fate as that person met his death.

Perhaps here all "Girish Karnad" attempts, seems at surface level wrong, but actually it was towards a new India, enlighting India, religion free india or "The India" where every person has freedom of speech and they have their equal share to disseminate their ideas or information, which is said to be the key to a democratic country. While it is, that though our India today, a democratic country but the fundamental rights given to the Indian isn't yet utilized and so the India is now called to be "the developing India", because the important information is always curtailed by the authoritative dignities of India(FREEDOM OF PRESS-SHASHI THAROOR).

At another side, we see that he was the facilitator of muslims, as he had also condemned V.S. Naipaul for being "an antipathic of muslims" and he don't have any right to be, as he belongs to "Uzbekistan". It can be also seen that "V.S. Naipaul" seems to belong to the right wing of Hinduism and as he was a writer, Girish Karnad wanted him to be the follower of (left wing) so that he can see the world by his own perception and as a dutiful writer suggest or bring the required and improvised changes in India. While the others, who allegedly claim him to be the "treason of the nation", weren't knowing his hidden intentions(applicable theory of "seeming" and "being").The other ongoing process of just awakening the sleeping(babri masjid issue, Idgah in hubli). Where it literally seems that he was only endeavoring to dead the roots of riots. He wants to place every citizen of India at equal scale. Where all are equal, all have equal rights, all will follow the same path, noone is supreme or inferior and perhaps wanted to make "religion free India".

 "Charity begins at home".

 and as he was belonging to hinduism, he wanted first, improvement from his side, so he was scathingly criticizing hindu activists and opposing them.

"Don't judge the book by its cover".

conclusively, we may learn here that what we see isn't the true, truth has many faces and hues and it transforms in many combinations,  where a person can only identify his own truth, with the help of his perception. So we should avoid judging people by their actions as here we had the controversial figure of "Girish Karnad".

Metaphysical poetry : John Donne

On "Metaphysical Poetry/Poets",

As today was our first day, to get opportunity to listen Mandaliya sir, First he made clear "The Concept Of Metaphysical Poetry", By whom the term was coined, who is its pioneer and the pioneer's followers, What are the features  and its reasons in detail.

John Donne was the pioneer of "The Metaphysical Poetry", the term was coined by Samuel Johnson in his collection of 'most eminent poets's biography' named "The Lives".

How John Donne and his successors poetry style was differing from their predecessors, as their poems were based on day to day life experience, and they weren't the scholars(e.g.   Shakespeare, Dr. Philip Sydney, Christopher Marlowe, Spenser and many others, existing in Elizabethan age) While the group of 17th century poets, differing in this manner, they were scholars and learned men, as they had received education and were literate, while the formers were lacking in(with the arrival of printing press, there were a number of coffee houses and hubs, where people used to disseminate information, by sharing, arguing and discussing) and as they were literate, It seems as they had much pride for their information. The knowledge came to them that, as they know something new and something much more than their predecessors, they can create poetry in a new from with new style{which was trial to finger and not to ear(not rythmic)}. So literally in this respect, It was somewhat practical but not delightful. As It wasn't delightful, It loosens its beauty in a very short time, welcoming the other form or style to situate in its place. The same is the reason, for which "Dr. Samuel Johnson(A poet and literary critic) criticized this style.

As It is said, " Characteristics of a particular age or era is reflected in the style of writing of various writers". So It seems here that the writing style was emotionless, superficial, formal, with the purpose to gain attention of people, sophisticated, and can be said adorned with over imagination. As It wasn't rythmic, It lacks in delight. But gradually It gained appraisal and appreciation also.

Furthermore, he also make us understood that  'John Donne's successors were used to experiment in their poetry, far-fetched images, like Geometrical, Agricultural, Mechanical Engineering, Astronomical, Chemistry, Ecclesiastical structure etc'.

For Example:

"The Rising Sun" written by John Donne, based on 'Metaphysical Style'. Where far-fetched images were used like Sun(from Astronomy), Wealth{from chemistry(gold)}, Geometry(the Sun, concerning its shape here), etc..

Analysis of "The Rising Sun" poem:

The descriptor of the situation, here the lover as a descriptor and also the appreciator of his beloved.

The writer doesn't want that the sun should peep in their bedroom, through his window or curtain, He is duely concerned with privacy, he doesn't want anyone to disturb him, while his beloved  accompanying him or they make love. 

He says that, here it doesn't necessitate, while you are needed where 'the school children are getting late', 'the apprentices, assigned for work', 'Courtiers and Officers of the Kingdom' and 'the farm labourers' are. So don't come here, otherwise he would make it eclipsed and it would become a dark spot and won't be able to shine. He has his own ideal concept of time, which is never going to end, while concerning moments, seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years, "as the rags of time". His love doesn't have any concern with climate or seasons, and not giving importance to wealth, considering his beloved as his Empire and he himself as her King and the other kingdoms, all over the world imitating their manner of loving each other.

Here we are to see 'the irritation or contemplating nature of the poet, which makes him over possessive of his beloved, considering each and everything sorrounding them, insignificant, given over importance to his beloved. Which also seems concerning reality, Overimagination of the poet, and irrelevancy as The Sun doesn't have any concern with their love, to make it dull or to intentionally give it prosperity, It works according to its natural cycle and so the time(occurence of day and night) as well as climate and seasons have their own roles to play. It also suggests that love is more important than nature, while love and nature is interconnected, love flourishes in the lap of nature. As a plant by watering grows, so the love increases day by day with natural influences, which smokes out in the form of feelings and emotions and as feelings and emotions increase, love keeps on flourishing, but when the love is true.

Political/Societal/Religious-post truth used in vivid context

As our sir is very much active, in his day to day life course, and as he is such, obviously he was expecting from his students, not in everything but in some respects to be like him, so concerning our benefits and our future, he is always eager, and looking forward to assign us various tasks, So that we may have mental flexibility, by stressing our brains on various tasks, given by sir.


Comprehension on post-truth word, its examples and my views on it are mentioned below:




● POST-TRUTH》

Post-Truth is said to have influence in past scenario, which it looses subsequently. It can be presented either in positive or negative scenario as per the time's demand, likewise It keeps on modifying in various designed frames.

Accordingly we can classify it into various categories:

-Politically said Post-Truth, can be considered as "manipulative, modified, hypocratic,hypnotizing truth"

-Socially told can be chiefly called blatant lies, as suggested by "Kathleen Higgins" and in simplified manner, It can be called "Fabricated truth" or "man/woman made truth", However women are very much advanced in this pace.

-It can be suggestive, defending, comtemplating etc.

Examples of Post-Truth:

-Demonatisation in India(2016)
-Britian left the European union(2016)
-45th triumph of Donald Trump

By practically implicating an example also, we can justify the idea of Post-Truth.

Hence It can be examined in various context.🙏❤🤝

Thinking activity:Doctor Faustus: Points to ponder on

This task of thinking activity, based on our (syllabus), given to us by Dilip Barad sir, so that we may know, where we are, still need to improve, or If improvised then how to be the masters of those skills and include other new skills to retain it at our disposal, how much we are able to see something from different perspectives, by stressing, disturbing our memory, with the aim of regenerating something new  

1.The play directed by Matthew Dunster for Globe theatre ends with this scene (see the image of Lucifer). What does it signify?

Answer-1: 
As we look at the photo, we see lucifer(the master of mephistophilis and the ruler of hell) in haphazard manner, seems as he has forgotten himself in counting other people's sins,as sins get increasing in number, his size has become inferior to his feathers, who knows in coming time, those feathers would be wrapped around his own body and cover him to death or remain him in illusive immortality.
While in other aspect, the feathers symbolize his strength, power, expansion. Therefore he himself seems helpless, can defend someone(here Dr.Faustus)? He himself seems insignificant in this image, as seems exhausted, continuously focusing on other people's sins or busy in gathering those . We must do some work, but what work or deed we do, will shape our personality. Generally we may see, If we don't have "forget and forgiveness approach" towards life then our life is totally spent in calculating someone's mistakes or injustice done by them to us, so to live happily "forget and forgiveness" is life's only formula, to retain us burdenless for long, while here It is Lucifer work to do such things, which is burdensome, carries much weightage, and weightage increases day by day, from where he cannot escape,  as he is gorged into it as such, that there isn't the way of coming out,whether he like or not, or If he is going to decompose,  he has to live there forever, as he has been chosen for such terrible and forbidden things.
It is his ultimate destination, where he is going to remain eternally.

2. Is God present in the play? If yes, where and how? If No, why?

Answer-2: We might say 'yes' and 'no' both, by evaluating it in respect of Medieval as well as Renaissance idea.Medieval Idea:where God is in the centre or can be considered "theology as queen of all sciences" or "cosmos of Christianity".  According to Medieval idea, we may say that "Dr. Faustus waivering is the reflection of God existence. As God is telling him that "He shouldn't disobey God or renounce him" or God is preventing him from going further into "necromancy", where at first, we see the impact of peripeteia, but as he is very much obsessed into gaining divine power, abruptly his realization changes into hubris(excessive ambition of pride), where it mirrors the denial of God.e.g: "seven deadly sins" and "to deny God existence is against God's will" in accordance with christian cosmos, reflected in Dr. Faustus play.
Renaissance Idea:This idea is associated with secularism, where science and imaginative intellectuality has upperhand, and God has no space in it. Everything happens with men's approval and their dedicated efforts, else it isn't going to..It is everything about our conscience(mann ki Aawaz) in which our thoughts, ideas, values are reflected, and according to which, It will alert us time to time, what we are doing, is good or bad at such times, and If that occuring voice is suppressed, and we are unable to think or to identify  it, It may perhaps result into anarchy/into our own destruction.e.g: Faustus in ecstatic imaginary in fisrt and last monologue, in former to gain knowledge, which is profitable and delightful, in latter to escape himself from hell(pleading to god to offer him various options to escape hell) reflected in Dr. Faustus play.

3. What reading and interpretation can be given to this image (see the image of Daedalus and Icarus) with reference to central theme of the play Dr. Faustus?

Icarus & Deadalus

Answer-3: 

"Overexcitement looses the winning game"/ "disobedience of his father causes him loosing his life". "can be interpreted as Icarus's 'hamartia' as it was the case of Dr. Faustus, when meeting Helen in ecstatic mood, causing his fall".It is the Greek mythology. Having warned by his father (Deadelus) not to soar high in the sky,  'Icarus' in ecstatic mood reach near the scorching sun, and as his wings are of wax, those are melted of scorching heat and Icarus is fallen into the sea(which is named after him Icarian sea).To exemplify this mythology further, we may have example of Adam&Eve, Eve was forbidden to eat the apple but she ate and further we know the design of the story. Forbidded things tempt people to do those things, which reveals mystery, and our human psycology is such that we are always behind to disclose mystery.

Deadelus&Icarus imaginative journey from Earth to sky:

Deadelus: O my dear son! Lemme experiment with my craftmanship, so we may be acquitted from this tower! Have thy feather and wax made wings to soar in th sky, but prevent yourself soaring high over the sun or else it would be melted you down..
Icarus: Thankyou Dad, Oh I see🤔
(both are flying)
Icarus: O Dad, really thankful to you, it seems to me as I am in heaven, as everything is in my control, some unknown elements are attracting me towards them, with renewed strength, I don't know where I'm going, equilibrium with air, seems as gravity is in my favour, I know dad you told me, not to overreach the sun,but I cannot prevent myself from experiencing something beyond divinity, lemme go, I have been balanced between Earth and Sun, but abruptly something forced me upward, my wings melted, and I am flinged into the sea!..
Deadelus: O God, have mercy upon us! but at my surprise! he was drowned into the sea and I was left behind..🧚‍♂️🧚‍♂️
Icarus: dead..
Deadelus: ....I warned you, but O son! you didn't pay heed...!! fascinated by unknown world..
Icarus: ......

4.  How do you interpret this painting?

Answer-4: 

This image is connected with Greek Mythology, though at surface level, we see nature, landscape, routine life spend by farmer and the shepherd. While actually It is about Icarus, who was drowned after reaching too high over the sun as his wings were melted down and lead him to drown into the sea, in periphery.
Drowning into sea, has become insignificant for others, What one is doing, hardwork or efforts is for oneself and even others can't know, what you are passing through, because by and large all are behind to better their survival, some are following ethical values, some aren't..
At every scale, we see overambition leads to  fall, being atheist or following ethical values. Everyone must be grateful of what one is, when we are becoming victim of excessive pride or ambition, we start to destroy someone or something, knowingly or unknowingly, not knowing precisely what dire consequences we are going to face..We must name it (the law of nature), based on action and its reaction, gives us what we provide him, there is always reward bestowed to us, what we provide, It would be either in negative sense or positive sense..

Hence we see aforementioned image interpretations in various .

5.  Summarise articles discussed in the class:

Myth, Psychology and Marlowe's Doctor Faustus:

Concerning Marlowe's "Doctor Faustus" here, according to "Carl Gustav Jung" If we have thorough faith in our religion(myth) or in technology(science), as here we are concerned with renaissance and medieval period, It must be with resolution, not dependent, independant, Jung narrates something as, "It cannot be pushing by saying Amen". Therefore equally healthy approach implied in both aspects, myth as well as in psycology. If It is properly arranged in our psychic mind, then It would be fruitful, beneficial and advantageous in advanving times. But when there is coflict between concious and unconscious state of mind, where one is in dilemma, unable to decide, where to go(as here Dr. Faustus, who is constantly striving to come out of it but at last he has to surrender, and give this play a tragic/negative end, while Goethe's faustus differs in this respect, It has a positive end) which results into neurotic state of mind, constantly fighting with antiodromia-like tendency, going on in the mind, as Faustus is unable to decide or recognise it, he surrenders, If he would have recognised and have chosen either path, confidently and with determinance, then there would be proper order in mind, without anatiodromia, and with healthy approach, he would have meet a positive end like Goethe's Faustus.

Hence we see here, the concept of Mythology and Psycology, How they both became inferior, If there is lack of healthy approach and start conflicting, for either of choice, which would result into psychic fatal death.

Marlowe and God: Tragic Theology of Dr. Faustus: by Robert Ornstein:

According to Robert Ornstein, Marlowe's "Dr. Faustus" is unable to maintain balance between intellectuality and thoughtlessness, with reference to the beginning and ending of Dr. Faustus play, So he is unable to justify any of the idea of his play, So It has been conflicted in between, If he would have followed his growing jejune infatuation with power till the end, the play would have ended in positive mood.

Hence, Marlowe and God's hypotheses, according to Robert Ornstein is presented here, in succinct manner.

6. Read this article by Bhagat Singh. In light of the arguments made by Bhagat Singh in this article, can you re-write last monologue of Doctor Faustus?

Answer-6:  "Shahid Bhagat Sinhji", being an atheist, was a firm-minded, believes that "humans and nature", are the cause of origination and evolution(Darwin's theory), humans are equal to God, and If he/she isn't, he can become by his deeds. Though he concluded, that he isn't victim of vanity or pride, but from his thoughts, It can be clearly seen.The distiction between Bhagat singh and Faustus is solely that "Faustus is in dilemma, while Bhagat Singh is walking his chosen path with determination, while Faustus is lacking in. If the narration is narrated from the point of view of Bhagat Singh, It would be somewhat like below mentioned monologue:

Outline: one bare hour is left, Dr. Faustus is about to go in hell, and his reaction towards the end of life.

What is hell!What is heaven!What is God!Mere fabricated means, exploiting, suppressing powers,Enliven, Though don't have existence.I am the God of this universe,At my finger tips, I can go either to hell or heaven or destroy those means,Who is mephistophilis or lucifer,Solely mere contracters of an unknown powerful personality,works as a gravitational force for its minute particles,That I can be..but not willing to be,I'mnt  that inferior personality, that seeks favour to function myself!..I'm what I'm!Grounded on my own feet,Get lost mephistophilis,Reminding me of time!Tell  your superior,to come and meet me!Hence can be the monologue, narrated by Dr. Faustus, If he was an atheist as Bhagat Singh.

Based on the life of Anand Kumar in Bihar and Educational Programme, running since 2002.

A conflict between two categorised ideas:

Raja ka beta hi Raja banega: 

Following this idealism, we see If it is going to happen, what would be the status of any state. There would be permanent class's discrimination, lower class people would be considered as "pairon ki jooti", when needed, ordered, satiated the requirements, humiliated them, they would be considered as a puppet of their string.

 If there is class discrimination. People would obviously be divided, as per their work, as It was the state of India, many years ago, when there were four classes, divided in accordance with their work: "Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra". Therefore there were many unacceptable rituals, going on at particular time, which was gradually abolished with the help of various sects activists, existing at that time.

"Raja wohi banega jo haqdaar hai".

Following this idealism, nowadays we see in India, we are having "reservation system" where people belonging to lowest categories(obc, sc, st), would be benefitted with some percent of reservation in various sectors and the another upper class(general category people) has to work hard to soar high. So the pattern of stimulation has changed, not the haqdaar(righteous people) are getting their fruit, but the fruits are given to those, who aren't even deserving .

"bechargi transforms into blessings".

So the cream is given to the reserved people, while the other people only have the share of whey, not even creamless milk is provided to them.

Observing all these problems  of India, an idea strucks in my mind that If we want an ideal India, there shouldn't be such reservation system, people who work, has the right to come forward, or to rise high, So perhaps in advancing time, India would be beyond our imagination, there won't be any class or cast discrimination, equally development we have, of our country as well as our people, and It might happen that India would become rich in all aspects, If discrimination isn't practised among people. 

In this movie, India is reflected. Though we have many talented people, we don't have enough money to show their talent and yet we have but those who had, have only used that money for their own welfare or development, so It isn't sowing fruitful seeds for those,  who need but for those who had acquired. If there is a universal approach, then perhaps our india will be beyond our imagination, after some successive years, but that needs to happen, someone wants to take a United initiative on it.

From beginning to ending, in this movie, though Anand Kumar (Hrithik Roshan) strives to improve the impoverish condition of his coaching students(as they didn't get enough food to eat)but in this movie, we see one aspect, that food isn't becoming an obstacle in gaining education(only we need is sound mind).

How a person, is failed to go to Cambridge, due to insufficient money, and then how he has to surrender himself to such circumstances, and how it is painful for someone, having enough talent and brilliancy and knew, If he would excel further, what he is going to gain, but cannot do anything.. Then we see effect of peripeteia, when he has recognition of repeating the same thing with the student, which he has once faced and turn to give free coaching classes to economically backward children, who are engaged in odd and cheap works and due to their financially weak condition, they cannot gain education or think about it. Facing many obstacles, he had achieved, what he wants to but unable to fight against poverty, at last also any idea of eliminating poverty isn't seen.

Many positive ideas of learning can be seen, not only from formal education, but from day to day experience, one can learn, which isn't in one's syllabus. somewhat magic and miraculous, not in literal sense, but it is something, which generate from meditated mind.

How his students belong to various cultures, but he sees talent in everyone, though at surface level, spectators would feel that student came with cheap ideas, or reflecting their culture there but AnandKumar, perhaps gives priority to hard-work or thinks the variety of thinking would yield a new invention to India, seems as  supporting the idea of "unity in diversity".

Contemprary elements can be seen, as education is given due importance than religion(as at last fighting strategy is arranged according to mathematical formula  application and its outcomes, predictions), preaches us lesson of how to change "0" in positive case and how due to lack of understanding and care, It can be converted into negative case.

Movie is worth watching, especially to see AnandKumar (a teacher's) dedication towards his work, not caring about any obstacles coming in his way, if even it is death and It is his wisdom of education, which helps him overcome his death and having a win win situation at last.👏😍👸
