A hindi melodrama movie, starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhavan and Alia Bhatt.

OUTLINE

Movie is set in 1940s(1945, in pre-partition era) particularly in Lahore(Northwest Pakistan). Where two societies are described. One belongs to "Chaudharies(Hindu)" another to "muslims". There is personal as well as some anger stoked issues, subsequently committed in innocency and for personal gains.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE STORY

"Kuch rishte karz ki tarah hote hain, unhe nibhana nahi, chukana padta hai".

Satya Chaudhary a daughter-in-law of Balraj Chaudhary and a wife of Dev Chaudhary. Who had chosen Alia Bhatt(Roop) as a successor after her.

As the plot proceeds further "Roop" feels herself to be imprisoned in marriage relation with "Dev Chaudhry". As listening to the voice of "Baharbegum" sitting in window, inclines to join the "riyaaz", already being in search of love meets "Zafar" a muslim boy, who has many contradictions regarding his personality and way of living life.

Irrespective of such aspects, Alia Bhatt joins (reporting work) in her own husband's company and as craving to write an article for the society, where Zafar lives, Zafar becomes her guider to describe "the colourful doings of the society".

"Roop ki mohabbat mera haq hai, aur ye haq mein lekar rahunga".

But gradually he fells in love with Roop. Who is already a wife to "Dev Chaudhary" going to take her place after "Satya" would die of the cancer.

"Naajayaz mohabbat ka anjaam, aksar tabaahi hi hota hai".

While Roop herself is immersed in. She is having much courage to confess her love and show dare to live with Zafar but somehow misinformed in between by "Baharbegum" of the nature of love, being done from Zafar's side. Being disheartened surrenders herself to her husband.

Then an avengeful riots has been flamed over in the entire "Husnabad", fortunately those three are getting asylum into the carriage, which was about to drop them "at railway station". Instead of many attempts made to save themselves, Zafar is ultimately killed and movie lastly strikes on the question. That..

Love out of marriage is "Kalank" or literally it has regardance with "true feelings of love(Mohabbat)" 

Which is being expressed through a song "Kalank nahi Ishq hai, kaajal piya".
